MARBELLA’S Puente Romano will hold for the second year the Marbella Masters tournament which starts today (Thursday) and runs until Saturday.



This years competition features a grand slam lineup including Swedish tennis legend, Bjørn Borg.

At a press conference this week the Swedish former tennis champion and manager of the tennis club (1979-1981), said that Marbella has always ‘been close to his heart’.

Spain’s former Wimbledon winner (1966) Manolo Santana who manages the Puento Romano Tennis Club said he has always admired Borg, and is “really looking forward to seeing him play”.

It is likely that this year's tournament will surpass last year's 15,000 spectators.

Borg and Yevgeny Kafelnikov will battle it out on the famous Puente Romano clay courts.

In addition  to 11 time  grand slam winner  Bjørn Borg, former world number one and Russian ace Eugene Kafelnikov will be joined  by past Wimbledon winner Pat Cash, as  well as former world top 15 players Younes El Alanoui and Ronald  Agenor.  Mansour Bahrami of Iran will also return to the Masters to join the star studded line up with his trickery shots from all over the court.

As a member of the ATP, the Puente Romano Tennis Club, situated in the heart of the Golden Mile, a residential district between Marbella and Puerto Banus, about a 35-minute drive from Malaga International Airport has hosted some prestigious matches including the Davis Cup and the WTA with some of the biggest stars of the tennis world gracing its courts over its 31-year history.
