Following on from the recent bankruptcy of Spanair, Air Nostrum is to present a temporary redundancy plan for all their workforce.
1,800 workers will be affected for two years. The legal proceedings have been started in Valencia, where the company has its headquarters.

The airline which is an Iberia franchise is going to leave its 15 fifty seater planes on the ground, and will abandon most of their loss-making summer routes so as to fight the economic crisis.

They say the temporary lay-offs are down to the increased costs of aviation fuel, a fall in the income from each passenger of 14.8% since 2008, and the depreciation of the Euro.

A 15 day period of consultations is now underway, with meetings planned every two or three days with the workers representatives.
