64 year old British man has died and another 43 year old survived after their 12 metre yacht started to take on water in heavy seas on Monday

64 year old British man has died and another 43 year old survived after their 12 metre yacht started to take on water in heavy seas on Monday 360 miles to the NE of Gran Canaria. 

The area was outside the SAR Spanish search and rescue zone in Moroccan waters.

The Britons sent an SOS message by radio which was received by the ‘Tordis Knitsen’ ship which went to assist, initially rescuing both men alive, but the older man died shortly after. The 43 year old is reported to be in good health.

The ‘Tordis Knutsen’ was expected to arrive on Gran Canaria, her intended destination at around 2000 on Tuesday, from where the Guardia Civil will handle the proceedings.
